This week has been very eventful!
On Monday we welcomed Jean from Greenacres Residential Home and her carer, Karen. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to interact with a member of another generation and it was an extremely worthwhile experience which we plan to continue. What made it especially gratifying was that Karen said that Jean obviously really enjoyed the visit as well and got a lot from it.
As part of our Chinese New Year theme we made Chinese lanterns.
Then we tried some seaweed at snack time which we bought at the Chinese grocers. The children didn’t seem too keen! They nearly all had a taste though and being confident to try new experiences is an important aspect of the curriculum.
On Friday we had a visit to our allotment at Collings Park and we planted some daffodil bulbs. The children really enjoyed this and we plan to continue to plant as the weeks progress. Watching things grow and change will lead to further exploration of the seasons and the natural world and discussion of where the things we eat come from.
How lovely to invite Jean from Greenacres; a wonderful experience for both children and adults. Max told us all about her visit. He said he didn’t enjoy the seaweed but we are pleased he gave it a go. We’re trying to teach him to say happy New Year in Chinese and come in to tell everyone but it’s proving difficult! Thank you for another lovely week.
It would be amazing if he mastered ‘Happy New Year’! We would be really impressed!
