This week we decided to do one of our favourite activities, dancing footprints. We love this activity because the children have so much fun doing it and it has lots of learning benefits. It is lovely to see the children co-operating and helping each other to paint their feet and they enjoy moving in time to the music. We can also talk about the colours we use and count our steps and jumps.
Washing our feet afterwards is fun too!
Well done to our ‘tip top tidy uppers’ this week! We hope that you enjoyed taking home the trophy and I’m sure your families were very proud of you.
As I’m sure you know, we all wash our hands a lot at pre-school and the children are encouraged to do this for the recommended 20 seconds. They are getting very good at being thorough!
Of course we all wash our hands before snack and this week some children helped us to prepare this. It’s very good practice for fine motor skills which helps with future development of such things as writing and scissor control.
We read a story about a hedgehog this week and this led to us making hedgehog collages. We like to talk about what we see outside and the natural world and many children have seen interesting things. Someone told us about the squirrels he saw collecting acorns and we have noticed quite a lot of spiders in the garden!
Mr David brought in a special guest this week who caused a great deal of excitement- Emu! He helped to read a story but he wasn’t always very well behaved!
We have been measuring the children for our height charts this week. Doing this activity is good for introducing and developing maths skills such as more and less and longer and shorter. The children who had this done last year can also see how they have changed in height over time, which is an important concept.
Our letter of the week this week has been ‘m’ and we have talked about things which begin with this sound. We also decorated the letter as a craft activity.
So as you can see we have had lots of fun indoors and and outside.
We have been asked by some parents about our holiday club. Having sought advice from early years we are able to go ahead with this but due to the Covid situation and the need to adhere to current bubbles, we can only accept children from our pre-school. We are happy to provide a holiday club for the October half term but we will need to have at least 6 children on each day to make it viable. Please could you let us know ASAP if you would like your child to attend, so that we can let those interested know if it will go ahead. The dates are Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th October and the cost is £23.00 for the day.
Thank you!
Have a good weekend everyone and see you next week!
Oliver really enjoyed pre-school this week & his lovely hedgehog is stuck on the fridge! What a fun-filled week you had!
I’m glad his hedgehog has got pride of place!
