This week was very exciting, not least because of the snowy, icy weather. Once they had wrapped up warm, the children were able to enjoy our outdoor area, collecting ice and snow and watching it melt. Talking about the changes that happen to things over time is part of the curriculum and the transformation of ice to water is a quick and effective demonstration of this!
We had lots of boxes and cartons and bits and bobs at preschool, so we decided that we would do some junk modelling this week.
Two of our children took their creation for a spin in the most impressive manner!
We are still concentrating on promoting the childrens’ fine motor skills and this week we set up an activity using tweezers to pick up pom-poms: very fiddly! We could extend this by asking the children to count how many pom-poms they had managed to get, which continued our emphasis on number skills.
After all of that hard work, we let rip using the musical instruments for a circle time activity, which they really enjoyed.
A group of children worked independently and cooperatively to build the train track. It’s lovely to see them negotiate and share during their free play, at least from time to time!
This week we were sad to hear that our lovely milkman is leaving to train as a paramedic. We will miss him, but it sounds like an exciting move. We drew some pictures for him so he won’t forget us.
Next week our letter of the week will be ‘s’ (‘sss’).
Olivia is so enjoying her time at pre school. She is sad on the days that she doesn’t go and can’t understand why she doesn’t go every day. She is particularly enjoying learning her sounds and has been showing the family at home what she has learnt with such a proud look on her face 🙂
That’s lovely to hear! She is really interested in our letter of the week.
