This week we have revisited our experiments from science week, which have been just as popular as the first time we did them! The cola and mentos fountain again caused great excitement, even though the children knew what to expect this time!
Another thrilling development this week was our trip to Collins Park. We checked our beetroot and found that it had grown big enough to eat! Miss Warren spent an evening cooking it up and the children had a chance to taste it at snack time. As you can imagine, reactions were mixed, but well done to everyone who gave it a go! It has been a lovely activity, seeing the production of food from seed to table, and it is a fantastic opportunity for the children to realise that what they eat doesn’t originate on the supermarket shelves.
Next week we are continuing to look at the world around us and will visit Collins Park again, so this has been a good introduction to that topic.
Also this week, we have taken small groups of children to the shop to buy ice lollies (fantastic for cooling down in this incredible weather!)
We opened the doors to Compton’s foundation classes this week, and the children enjoyed playing with the older pupils and using their exciting equipment. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to become used to the school if they are moving up, and even those who will go to a different school can become used to the ‘big school’ environment.
On Friday, we were fortunate enough to be invited to a mini sports day, organised by Miss Watts and Miss Stapleton from Compton School foundation stage and the children from year 6. The children had a fantastic time competing in the fun races and the older pupils were very attentive towards them. The certificates and medals which all were given were of an Olympic standard. Thank you so much to everyone for the opportunity; we had a super time!
Another request for you! If anyone has any old and unwanted childrens’ hats, we would be very grateful for them. The hot weather has stretched our supply, and we always need spares.
Thank you!
What an exciting week! We can’t believe Max’s time at pre-school is nearly over 😢 The mini sports day was just lovely and the y6’s did a fantastic job in organising and running the event – Max loved it and can’t wait for the next sports day. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into making each day exciting and full of learning opportunities.
Thanks Kate! The time does fly by and this time of year is always bittersweet as we see the children get ready to move on. Sports day was good wasn’t it – and luckily no one melted! 😁
