This week we have begun our Christmas craft. We have been making salt dough tree decorations. Rolling them out and using cutters is good for our physical development and fine motor skills.
We are very excited about the return of Miss Warren on Monday-we have really missed her! While she has been gone we have talked a lot about where she is and now we know all about Australia and can point it out on our map. We are hoping that she will bring home a koala to be our preschool pet! This links to the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) ‘Understanding the World’ section and also encourages our speaking and listening skills.
Next week we are going to begin practising our nativity-you will probably recognise many of the songs we will be singing and it would be lovely if you could encourage your child by singing along with them. Developing a repertoire of songs forms part of the expressive arts and design curriculum in the EYFS. Performing for an audience is good for building the childrens’ confidence and we hope you are looking forward to their show. A letter detailing their part will be going out now so keep an eye out for it. If your child is a carol singer they will just need to wear a coat, hat and scarf and we hope that the costumes for other parts are self explanatary- if you have any queries please just ask us!
Also this week we have had our first trip to Collins Park to visit our growing area. This project will be really good for understanding the world- looking at growth and changes over time and talking about features of the natural world. Also we can talk about healthy foods and hopefully over time begin to grow some things to eat. All children will have an opportunity to visit and if any of you have any time to help we would be very grateful.
