This week we have begun our new topic – Chinese New Year.
We have printed our handprints and used them to make a Chinese dragon. Luckily, he is a friendly dragon and the children think he will bring us good luck. Looking at traditions from different cultures is an important part of our curriculum and leads to a lot of learning opportunities.
We have turned our home corner into a Chinese takeaway. Using the tills and money is good for developing the childrens’ numeracy skills and we find that the language that they use during role play extends their vocabularies as they chat amongst themselves.
On Wednesday the children were very excited to see that the water tray outside had iced over. We watched the ice melt in their hands and talked about why this happened.
