This week we managed to have a visit to Collings park, despite the continuing awful weather! The forecast is promised to improve from next week so we are hoping to be able to visit more often soon.
Jo, one of our mums, donated this wonderful dinosaur for our planter. His name is Roary! Thank you so much, the children absolutely love our new pre-school member!
Another of our mums, Rihab, came to talk to us about Eid, which was celebrated last week. It was lovely to see the videos they had taken of the things they did and the children had an opportunity to ask questions about the customs and meanings behind them.
We practised our shape recognition this week in a very physical way! The children had to throw their ball through a hoop which had a named shape. This is a good way to encourage learning in children who like outdoor energetic activities and was also a lot of fun!
Some of our children prefer to stay inside and many of them chose to do some painting this week. It’s lovely to see what they choose to paint.
Others chose to take the drawing outside.
And some couldn’t get too much water, in spite of the frequent showers!
Well done to our trophy winners this week!
We had fun despite the rain!
This week Mrs Matthews, Mrs Chapple and myself took part in a training session covering upcoming changes to the EYFS. The EYFS is the curriculum which we cover throughout pre-school and which continues into the first year of primary school. From September this is going to change somewhat and we are making sure that we are totally ready to adopt the new EYFS fully and effectively. All staff will be undergoing training and we will also be discussing what we plan to do in staff meetings. You will probably not notice much difference in your child’s daily experience of pre-school as we will obviously continue to aim to provide a stimulating, nurturing and exciting learning environment. If there is anything about the changes that you need to know about, rest assured that we will keep you fully informed.
ICan is a charity that works to support childrens’ speech development. They have launched an app that has good tips for parents to encourage and develop communication in children from birth-5. If you would like to check it out, the link is below:
A request now. We need to confirm that those of you who have not sent in sun cream or paid for us to apply ours do not want us to put sun cream onto their child at lunchtimes. If this is not the case, please let us know asap. Thank you!
Don’t forget that it is half term the week after next (31st May-4th June).
A quick date for your diary! We are planning to hold our ‘Party in the Park’ on Thursday 22nd July. More details in due course.
We hope you have a good weekend! Take care everyone.
Looks like another really fun week!
