This week we have continued exploring different bugs and insects. The children have enjoyed looking in the bug exploration area at the different toy bugs we have and then seeing if they can find real life bugs in the garden area.

We have also continued looking at the book of the very hungry caterpillar as it still seems to be a firm favourite! We had some red and green playdough and other craft materials for the children to make their own caterpillars. Look at how amazing they did!

We continued with the hungry caterpillar theme and incorporated it into an activity to help strengthen their fine motor skills. The children made necklaces threading pasta and paper discs through pipe cleaners to create the necklaces.

Wednesday we had our regular visit to the care home where the children played games and were even able to go on a hunt in their garden for some bugs too!

On Thursday we talked to the children about VE Day and why we celebrate it. The children coloured in their union flags and made scones and a card to take over to the care home as they were having a party to celebrate 80 years. The care home were absolutely delighted with this and expressed their heartfelt thanks. Greenacres also sent the photos into the herald newspaper and the children’s photos was published in the paper!

The sun was still shining this week and some of the children helped plant some flowers into some milk carton to make the garden look pretty. They demonstrated their understanding on how we help flowers grow by watering them (we did however need to explain we didn’t want to drown them 🤣).

Also as you can see our student Hollie is back! She has been doing  a baby placement in another setting but has joined us again for the final term. Hollie will be with us Weds and Thursday after half term as although she was back yesterday she is now doing her exams and work experience until half term.

We had another visit to Compton primary school again on Thursday afternoon. This is helping the children become more familiar with the environment to help with a smooth transition into primary school.

The team are working hard behind the scenes doing the children’s transition documents which is going across to the children’s allocated primary school. This week I attended a national Early years nutrition webinar which was really informative. It talked about how practitioners can try to support and educate families on the importance of giving their children nutritious and healthy foods. Jo also attended a SENDCO networking meeting where they discussed using the Ordinarily Available Provision and the Graduated approach.

For our new families joining us in September I have emailed you all with information regarding our ‘stay and play’ sessions.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! See you next week ☺️
