This week we have been celebrating Children in Need with lots of exciting activities!
We have done a lot of cooking, making Pudsey biscuits and Hey Dugee cakes. Weighing and measuring the ingredients is good for developing mathematical skills and the results are delicious!
Later this week we had a Hey Dugee squirrel hunt. The children searched for the characters and received a certificate when they found them all.
On Friday we were lucky enough to have a visit from Pudsey himself!
This week we also had an outdoor activity which involved the children exploring numbers and shapes in an active and fun way. We asked them to run to a certain shape or number and extended this in various ways such as ‘go to the number that you will be on your next birthday’ or ‘jump on the shape that is the same as a plate’. Sometimes parents ask us if they need to buy resources to support learning, but we find that some of the best resources are all around us. Going for a walk and talking about shapes and numbers in the environment (such as those on signs or in shops) is a fantastic learning opportunity and often more fun than sitting at a table. Also sharing books and stories with your child is the best way to introduce them to a love of knowledge and literature.
As well as our usual visit to Greenacres, we we lucky enough to welcome some of the residents to preschool this week. It was lovely to show them what we do at school and they seemed to really enjoy the visit. One of our visitors used to work at a preschool and she certainly knew the ropes!
If you are struggling to find time to get everything done in the run up to Christmas, we are able to offer some extra days for your children over the next few weeks. If you would like an extra day at any time, these can be booked now. A full day will cost £30 and a half day (without lunchtime) is £13.50. If you would like to reserve an extra session, please speak to a member of staff. They will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so let us know asap!
We are currently in the process of updating our policies. These can be found in the ‘policies’ section of the website (well that’s a surprise! 😂). However, we thought that we would include a link to each one we update as it is completed, so watch this space. The latest one is available via the link below:
Finally, a request to any of you who pay fees via a bank transfer. As these tend to be paid at around the same time by most people, it can be very hard for us to work out whose fees are whose. It would be really helpful if you could include a reference with the transfer (for example your surname) as this would really help us to match up the payments. Thank you so much!
