This week we used our hands to print a ‘family tree’. It was a good maths activity as it led to a lot of discussion about whose hands were bigger or smaller. We also could count how many prints we had made and how many fingers are on our hands.
This week we also had our first visit to Greenacres care home. The children chatted to the residents and sang some songs with them. We visit on a weekly basis and the children take it in turns to go. We find that they enjoy talking about what they are doing at Pre-school and are encouraged to communicate in a setting which is a little different from those that they are used to. The staff at Greenacres tell us that the visits are also a highlight of the week for them, which is lovely to hear!
We have noticed that our spinach has started to grow, so thank you for keeping off our soil! Hopefully soon we’ll all be like Popeye and full of spinachy goodness!
We don’t think we will be making anything edible in our mud kitchen, but the children love taking part in this activity. If any of you have any vegetables lurking around your kitchens which are a bit past their best, please bring them in, as they are fantastic for the children to play with and ‘prepare’. Using the utensils to do this is good practise for those motor skills too!
Given the windy weather that we’ve had this week, we shouldn’t have been surprised when our tent blew down overnight. This turned out to be a learning opportunity however as the space underneath was a haven for creepy crawlies and the children used the magnifying glasses to go on a mini beast hunt. The best things that they found were some of the fattest slugs in the world. Slime holds no fear for Compton Pre-school however!
