This week we have been focusing on stories and looking at books. We decided to base a range of activities around ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ as this always proves to be a popular book. We read this story and others to the children throughout the week.
The children made an enormous caterpillar out of paper plates for our display board.
As you can see, this book is really good as it includes counting activities for maths development, as well as the days of the week. As a result lots of learning has occurred covering different areas of the curriculum!
The children made their own fingerprint pictures of the caterpillar. This activity is good for developing fine motor skills. Some of the children then wanted to go freestyle!
Outside children used the chalks to draw and write on the Tarmac. Some children who are reluctant to sit at a table to draw and paint are happier to do this outdoors.
On Tuesday it was pancake day. Our resident chef Trudy came in and made pancakes with the children! They were very healthy pancakes as they were accompanied by lots of different types of fruit. The children really enjoyed this activity and were excited to try the different flavours and textures. Once again thanks to Trudy for providing a lovely experience for us.
Thursday was World Book Day. Well done everyone for the amazing costumes- you looked brilliant!
The children went to Greenacres in their costumes, which went down well with the residents! This week we all had a game of darts together. Unfortunately no one managed a 180!
Next Friday is Red Nose Day. If your child would like to dress up and bring in a small donation that would be lovely. Any donations received will be passed to school to be sent to the charity.
Our letter of the week next week is ‘n’.
A reminder about our ‘Great Compton Bake Off’ coffee afternoon on Tuesday 2nd April 1-3pm. For more details on this check out our latest newsletter on this site, which can be accessed on the ‘newsletter’ tab. Details of our Easter bonnet parade and egg hunt at 2pm on Friday 5th April can also be found there. The coffee afternoon will also be a chance for you to look at your child’s learning journal.
Finally a request! Next week we are going to do an activity which requires your child to bring in a plastic bottle with a lid. Please when you send yours in can you make sure that you have written the name of your child on it. Thanks!
