We are always practising independence skills with the children, such as putting on shoes and coats, using the toilet and washing hands. These things are really important when the children start school so it’s great if you can encourage them at home too. We’re all guilty of doing these things for our children for a quicker life but it’s so beneficial to take the time to let your child master these skills themselves.
We have been looking at different ways of mark making and using pens and pencils to encourage fine motor skills this week. We fixed some paper underneath the table top and the children found drawing on this really exciting. Even children who may not usually be attracted to this kind of activity were keen to have a go.
We had an opportunity this week to use the tennis equipment and membership that we purchased with the Christmas raffle money. The children had a lot of fun and I’m sure that we have some future Wimbledon champions in the making!
We also had a visit to the care home and the children really enjoyed playing games and chatting with the residents.
We’ve been doing lots of different things and covering lots of elements of the early years curriculum through play.
This week Miss Warren (Chloe) had a course on sensory processing and Mrs Matthews (Sam) and Mrs Mapps (Jo) attended a course about safeguarding.
