Normal service is resumed this week following our technical fault last week!

We had some jelly activities this week, which were sparked by a child asking how jelly is made. In response to this enquiry, we made some jelly of our own for snack time.

We also sang ‘Jelly on a plate’ and had a good wobble around!

Our aim is to plan activities which come from the childrens’ interests and questions, as you can see from this jelly fun. We find that this is the best way for the children to learn as they are really engaged in their play and exploration. For this reason, if your child has special interests at home, please let us know so we can utilise this enthusiasm.😀

Our new water tray has arrived and we immediately put it to good use. It was very popular and I’m sure we will get a lot of enjoyment from it as the weather gets warmer. Thank you for helping us to purchase this lovely equipment!

We love playing outside and do so in all weathers, but it is nice when the sun is out!

We also took an opportunity to visit our allotment at Collings Park. We picked the onions we had planted and brought them back to preschool to prepare them. Growing things is almost magical for children and it is good for them to see where their food comes from.

One of our children brought in a book to share this week, which we all enjoyed.

A parent donated some toys to us. The children really liked one in particular! We like playing with games like this as they are good for developing social skills like taking turns and sharing.

Don’t forget that we are running our holiday club on the Tuesday of half term (28th May). If you would like to book a place, please speak to a member of staff.

Staff training this week included a safeguarding course for Mr David and the continuation of the SENCo award qualification for me. I was privileged to be able to visit Woodlands special school this week which was an amazing experience. The dedication of the staff was wonderful to see and it was lovely to join in with the activities and to spend time with the children.

Please can you ensure that you send your child to school with their sun cream applied. If you would like us to use our sun cream when reapplying to those who stay all day, could you please hand in £1 to help to cover the cost.

As well as our letter of the week, which next week will be ‘b’ (‘buh’), we are introducing a makaton sign of the week. If you have watched Mr Tumble on CBeebies, you will have been introduced to makaton, which is a proven way to help children with their communication skills. This week our sign of the week was for ‘play’ (an important one as I’m sure you’ll agree!). Why not ask your child if they can show you the sign each week. They pick them up very quickly! I’ll let you know what it was here each Friday so you can see if you managed to find out!
