This week we continued our Christmas craft activities, making cards and glittery decorations.
We had a visit to Collins park on a rare dry afternoon. It’s sometimes hard to get out and about at this time of year, but we try to whenever we can. It’s important for the children to experience the natural world and it’s changes and cycles in all seasons and we all enjoy this.
We also made some festive biscuits this week. Measuring out the ingredients and making the dough involves both maths and motor skills. The children smelled the spices we added, although not everyone thought they smelt nice!
We had a visit to the Consort Care village, and a walk through the park to get there.
A lot of children have chosen to use scissors this week. This is a really important skill for them to practice. It’s also important for them to understand how to use such equipment safely, such as learning the correct way to carry scissors to the table.
We two birthdays this week: many happy returns!
There is a new student helper who will be with us in pre-school every Friday. Craig has already settled in and he’s proving to be a big help with things like circle and tidy-up time!
Our tip top tidy upper trophy was won by one of the children though!
Next week we have planned some activities based on the ‘Stick Man’ book. We hope to make our own stick men, so if you happen to be out and about this weekend and would like to collect some sticks to bring in we would be very grateful. We love to share books and read stories and aim to encourage a love of literature from a very early age.
Mr David renewed his first aid certificate this week. All staff are first aid trained and we renew our training every three years to ensure that our skills stay current.
As we are so busy at the moment we have decided to continue our MAKATON sign and letter of the week from last week. This will enable us to ensure that we have reinforced them fully. (They are ‘Mummy’ and ‘g’)
Don’t forget to send in your hamper donations: please pass them to a member of staff. Raffle tickets should hopefully be on sale soon, but at the moment we don’t have enough things to make up any hampers!
