This week we began our letter and number topic. We have been singing ‘1, 2 ,3, 4, 5…once I caught a fish alive.’ To reinforce this, the children made some beautiful collage fish.
Children also enjoyed an activity where they matched numbers to quantities, counting out how many they needed to make a group of the required amount.
Drawing in the flour trays is good practise of important pre-writing skills. Preschool did look a bit like an explosion in a bakers at times though!
We also made some food for the birds this week, which we hope will encourage them to visit our nature area. A couple of years ago we had some tits nesting in our bird box and it would be great if that were to happen again, so fingers crossed!
This week also saw our first visit to Greenacres this year. The residents had missed the children over the break and were really pleased to see them. There was a rousing rendition of ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’, with everyone joining in. As well as being good for our children, these action songs are also good for the residents as they encourage them to move and are also good fun!
One of our children brought in an amazing car that he had made at home. Some children painted it together. It’s always fantastic to see what your children do at home and lovely when they bring in things that they have made or photos of what they like doing. These links between you and us are what makes our preschool a happy and successful place, so we are very grateful for your feedback and support. 😀
Another thing that some children like to bring in from home is birthday cake! One of our children had a birthday this week and so we had some cake for snack.
Our visits to big school for story began this week. We find that these are great for preparing the children for the transition to primary school as they help them become more confident in the larger environment. The children make us very proud when they sit nicely for the teachers!
