This week we made the most of the one sunny day by having a visit to our planter at Collings Park. We are really lucky to have been given this resource as it gives us an opportunity to experience the natural world at first hand and to grow our own plants and flowers, We were very excited to see that we had some courgettes beginning to develop as well as sweetpeas and other flowers.
It was lovely to hear the birds singing in the trees and to find some sparkly wet cobwebs!
We continued the Autumn theme with a maths activity this week. The children matched the numerals to the number of fingerprint apples they printed.
Maths was prominent this week as we also potato printed different shapes. Recognising shapes is an important early skill and it’s good to reinforce them outside pre-school by talking about shapes you see in the environment, such as those in road signs, logos and the like.
Lots of children really enjoyed marble painting this week. Moving the tray to ensure that the marble rolls onto all of the paper is good for co-ordination skills.
Another activity which we did this week involved freezing some toy dinosaurs and other things in a block of ice and letting the children practice their archaeology skills by digging them out using safety knives. This proved to be very exciting and we’re now thinking about setting up our own Jurassic Park!
More ‘tip top tidy uppers’ this week. Well done everyone!
All in all it was another very busy week!
Our Makaton sign for next week is ‘please’, so don’t forget to ask your child to show you how to do it! Our letter of the week is ‘s’.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Take care.
