This week we have done lots of physical activities and have revived ourselves with homemade pizza! The children took part in assault courses both indoors and outside. Moving in a variety of ways with increasing control is an important early learning goal and it can also be a lot of fun.

The pizza was fun to make and gave us an opportunity to talk about why we need to wash our hands before we cook. It also provided fine motor skill practice.

We had a visit to the care home, where the children had a game of skittles. Someone got a strike!

Mrs Matthews and Mrs Back renewed their first aid certificates over two Saturdays recently. We like all staff to be first aid trained and the three yearly renewals soon come around. Next Tuesday and Wednesday I am going to be taking part in a portage workshop, so I will not be in preschool on these days.

Can we please request that you do not allow your children (including older siblings) to walk on the garden at the side of the preschool or climb on the table. We hope to begin to plant seeds soon and so it is important that they are not disturbed. We do not let children at preschool climb on the table when we use this area and ask that you enforce the same rule as we want to avoid the accidents which may happen. Thank you.

Next week our MAKATON sign will be ‘thank you’ and our letter of the week is ‘c’. Don’t forget to ask your child for a demonstration of the signs for these! Also if you talk about  letters at home it is good to refer to them by their sound (phonics) – for example c is ‘cuh’, rather than the letter name  (‘see’ for c).  This approach helps enormously with later reading and writing skills. 👍

Don’t forget that we are taking bookings for half term holiday club. Dates are Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th February.
