This week we have continued to concentrate on maths. We measured how tall we all were using socks. Most of the children were 8 or 9 socks tall:
After the children had measured each other we asked them to estimate how many socks tall Miss Warren would be. We had a wide range of guesses, from 5 to 100(!), but one child guessed correctly: 13.
The ability to make deductions based on experience is an important part of maths and science learning and we enjoyed this activity and the discussions it led to.
We also sang number songs and used props to reinforce number recognition:
As promised, we would like to update you on what we have bought with the proceeds from our Easter fair. As we previously said, we had identified a need for more resources relating to the technology curriculum. For this reason we have now purchased a new i pad for the children to use, a number of headphones, a child-friendly CD player and some story and song CDs. Along with the new camera which was very kindly donated by a parent, we now have a really good range of resources to cover this area of the EYFS. Once again, thank you so much for your wonderful support!
On Friday we had our Muddy Puddle Walk to raise money for Save the Children. Thank you to all of you who donated to this important cause. For anyone who would still like to give, please see the following webpage:

We would like to thank Sam Matthews for organising this event which as well as raising money was also a good learning experience for the children. It enhanced their understanding of the world, both globally and locally, as not only did we talk about the children our money might help, but we also visited Collins Park where we experienced nature and planted some onions!
